The Chinese artist Chen Wan Yi loves people. At the same time he loves panda bears. And in those two he sees many similarities and differences. People are intelligent, but sometimes they can do stupid things; it is no different with pandas. Nevertheless, Chen Wan Yi prefers panda bears. ‘They are funny, enterprising and honest creatures’, says the artist. It is no coincidence that the panda gets an important role in his work.
After his education at the School of Arts / Sichuan University, Chen Wan Yi became a member of the China Artist Association. As an independent artist, he proves that he has his own style with every work. His paintings are ‘blond’, make you happy and have a transparency that is typical of Chen’s work.
Even more fun are the paintings by Chen Wan Yi for those who know his sculptures. They are ugly, brave and enterprising panda figures made in resin (fiberglass), handpainted, numbered and signed. They are the ‘incarnated’ figures that he also depicts in his paintings. Chen Wan Yi is represented exclusively for Europe by Galerie Kunstbroeders.
